Moving Forward into 2011

I will:

Pray more, Read my Bible more.

Loss more weight (50lb's would be nice but 20lb's would be a good starting goal)

Exercise more by taking more walks, therefore engaging lil Sara in another organized activity and helping to cut down on her boredom.

Be nicer to those I love...Which the goals above should help me achieve, because if I am healthier in body and spirit it should make for a happier me.

Be more organized and find a daily/weekly/monthly routine for running the household smoother.

Dig thru the mess in my head and awaken my inner artist...Including getting my studio back into order so I can get back to work...

So I guess that makes the big project for 2011...ME.

A Happy Post...

I wanted share a happy post today...I wanted to show off what a sweet gift hubby got for me this year, and what better time than Show and Tell Friday...

For the longest time I have been wanting a red purse, I love they way they add just a pop of color to a dark winter outfit without being to over the top....So I had been eyeballing the red ones at BEALLS for ages, but with money tight could not justify buying myself one when I have a perfectly lovely white purse my mother got me this summer..But I was still dreaming of a red "winter" purse.

Well now I dream no more, hubby surprised me with this lovely for Christmas....He even made sure it had nice soft comfortable straps....I *heart* my new purse.

T-I-M-B-E-R

The Christmas tree came down yesterday as did all the rest of the inside decorations...Right now the living room looks like we are moving out....There are boxes waiting to go up into the attic piled up and the room is looking stark and bare....So now I begin the daunting task of deciding what decor I want (can afford)....

But all this will just have to wait...The princess is still cranky and I have being trying since yesterday to get a sample as the Dr thinks UTI and sadly I can not start Sara on her coarse of meds to make her feel better before I get the sample but since being 2 she refused to co-operate even a little in this matter.

And having said that I must make this post short as she is now screeching for me.

Pray for me

Boxing Day update....

So Spunky barely made it thru the night, and alas after calling about 20 vets within a 1oo mile radius, could only find 3 that see birds...Good news is one of them is local, bad news is the specialist is only there on Wed and Fri...The 2nd one is about 45minutes drive away but again the specialist is not in on Mondays *sigh*...Finally at 9.30am I was given a number to call by one of the vets for the University Of Florida's small animal hospital, they could see him at 11am and it was about an hours drive from here...

At this point I was not sure he was even strong enough to make the trip as he was sitting in the bottom of the cage and was too weak to even grip my finger with his feet...I settled him down on a soft cloth under the heat lamp and made the decision to take him to the local cat and dog vet and just have him put to sleep...It was a hard call to make being he has been my little buddy for over 5yrs.

I called a friend to sit with Sara while I took him to the vet, by the time I got myself and Sara out of our PJ's Spunky was taking his final nap...Poor little Schnitzel is in the cage calling for her lost mate...I am not sure if I will have to find her another companion or not...Right now I am in no place to even want to replace Spunky.

This video was taken last Dec in our old house right after the birds got their new cage...Spunky would just not stop singing after I put them in it.

Not such a good day...

It must be Boxing Day because I feel like I have gone 3 rounds and lost to Mr Rocky Balboa himself.

My sweet little boy Cockatiel Spunky, was attacked thru the bars of his cage last night and has some serious wing damage...Maybe even a break, with it being Sunday and us living in the sticks I have to wait until tomorrow before I can start phoning around to find a vet that see's birds...The one Avian Vet in the area that I knew of retired last April :(....In the meantime I have been keeping him warm under my photo lamps and found the right dosage of aspirin to administer to a small bird via his water dish...This discovery btw was made at 6am while letting the dog out for a tinkle and discovering the poor Cockatiels had been left on the front porch over night.

Lil Sara seems to have fully recovered from the Strep Throat, but alas the antibiotics have not been kind and tomorrow we have to go back to the Dr to see what we can do about the side effect...This side effect leaving her extremely irritable when ever she tinkles...Poor little tike...The cold weather is still aggravating her asthma, so the Dr has her on a course of steroids as well...These make her even more irritable, so needless to say she is being a wee bit of a Cranky Puss Princess ATM.

And then round 3, was how cold it was here today...

Now I want to remind you Northern folks that I live in Florida, the sunshine state, the shorts and t-shirts for Christmas state...Well it was C-O-L-D here today...Cold enough that just 10miles up the road they had honest to goodness snow...THAT IS CRAZY...But how is this round 3 I can hear you thinking...Well today hubby works until after dark and I was alone here with a super cranky whiny sick toddler and could not go out to close the chicken house before dusk...I figured it would be ok, our dog is outside enjoying the cold weather (she is part Chow and loves the cold)...

Well when hubby got home he closed the chicken house first thing, but alas we are short one chicken...I am fixin' to go all Ma Kettle and sit on the porch in a rocker with my shotgun handy...2 weeks ago we lost our other duck...Now we are down to just a Rooster and 3 hens.

I think I am going to go get a hot shower and count my blessings, like hot running water...
Ma Kettle Out...

Update on Sara's fever

Home from the Doctors office, lil Sara has strep throat...Which is much better than having the flu since it is easily treated with antibiotics...The Dr did test for the flu since they have had a couple of kids come thru with the flu even though they have had their flu shots this year...

So please add our wee one to your prayers tonight so she will be healthy and happy to enjoy when Santa brings that Dollhouse she has been asking for..

Last minute Christmas gifts...

Can you believe it is Wednesday already and just 3 more sleeps till Santa...

Are you excited?

Are you ready?

Here is Sara making a last minute Christmas gift on Saturday for her favorite neighbors...

We cut 2 pieces of card stock (cereal box cardboard would work and possibly be better as it is a little thicker) into the shape of a Christmas trees. Slit one tree from top to middle and the other middle to base so they could slot together...Sara then spent the next hour gluing small pieces of recycled Christmas wrapping paper all over both sides of the card stock.

Here she is going to deliver the tree and a card she "wrote" in all by herself, I also slipped one of the photos of her taken during the family portrait section into the card....Sorry you can't see more of the finished tree, she was in a hurry to go see her "Wucil, JNR and Ant" (Lucile, Jr and Aunt Audry) and thought I was trying to take the tree while I was trying to take a photo of it lol.

This week nothing really has run to plan which is why no Tea Tuesday post this week *sad face* I even baked cookies and forbid the family to eat them until AFTER my photoshoot, but alas I just could not find the time to do the photoshoot, so I guess I should just let the family eat the gingerbread cookies...

This cold then warm weather is taking it's toll on Sara's allergies and asthma, I ended up spending most of yesterday, last night and this morning giving breathing treatments and trying to bring down her temp which rose to 102 degrees by late yesterday afternoon...We will be back at the Dr's as soon as they open this morning...I took her yesterday morning to make sure the wheezing had not spreed to her lungs...I hate how quickly these episodes come on.

I still have a couple of last minute gifts to buy and should have gotten all the Christmas cards with the family portraits in the mail by now but I guess they will be late this year...Though in my defense I did not receive the prints until Monday night.

Hope everyone else's count down to Christmas week is running smoothly and your home is filled with love, laughter and joyful anticipation of Saturday..

Psalms 91 NIV

I have been meditating on Psalms 91 these last few weeks, but this week verse 2 especially is on my heart...I need to focus on him and TRUST.

Psalm 91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

For the birds....

I put halved oranges in the trees just outside the back door for the birds to enjoy...It also allows me to enjoy watching them...The hanging seed feeder is also visited daily by a family of cardinals..You might remember in the spring me sharing images of Daddy bringing in the babies to feed for the first time. (see post here)

The funniest part about this picture is what you guys do not see...and that is one of our cats Pretty Kitty stretched out on a table about 10 feet from the tree waiting for her breakfast to be served lol.

Do you feed the birds in your area? If so, what do you put out and what kind of birds does it attract?

Sara's Tree...

This week for Pink Saturday I have Lil Sara dressed all in pink....

And here she is with her tree...Which is the reason she is dressed up to have her picture taken...While I was pregnant with her, our lovely neighbor Mr Stanfill (a widower) gave us this lovely Live Oak tree to plant on our property so the tree and the "baby" could grow together...Recently this neighbor remarried and moved back to Oklahoma...He will be back visiting this weekend and I wanted to give him a framed photo of Sara with her tree.

She is such a ham for the camera....

"Thanks for stopping by to see my tree" Says Lil Sara

Our Christmas Tour...

Here it is at last, what you have all been waiting on the edge of your seats for...The Christmas Tour...We have a small home compared to many you see in blog land or maybe it just seems that way since we have one open living area that serves as, Entry, Living Room, Kitchen and Dining Room...This year was so fun to decorate as most of my Christmas stuff has been in storage for the past 3yrs and this is also our first Christmas in the new house...As the budget for new decorations this year was $0 I had to spread what I already had over the entire space...Maybe next year we can add some garland for the doors and windows, but for now, here it is...

Our Humble Christmas Tour

The main tree was handed down to us when we married...As you can see I love the tacky tinsel look...Actually I was a little sad to see that much of the tinsel has shedded and I really need to get more...Also only 1 1/2 strands of tree lights are now working so we have some lighting bare spots that again will just have to wait...The ornaments on the tree are very eclectic as each year we buy a new one for the girls that captures who they are "that year"...Mic has everything from a wooden doll, to an ice skate, to an M shaped ceramic Cookie...Next to the front door you will see the 3 foot tree we used while the big one was being stored...I had hoped to put it on the front porch but it has been too cold and windy to try and set up a table and add some weights to the tree so it does not blow away.

The TV unit is still pretty sparse this year as most of what in the past went on there for Christmas is tucked safely away in my display cabinet (see post here) until lil Sara is older...Notice her Flamingo and she has laid claim to my soft snow man also...These 2 and a small 10inch tree, float around the house as she sees fit to decorate for herself....She is loving all the decorating and just adores any and all Christmas trees this yr.

In the other direction we have the entry table that leads your eye to the dining area...I think the entry table is one of my favorite Christmas displays again this year...You might have noticed my Robert Juniper print in now over the TV and has been replaced with this wall sconce that hubby and I got during our stay in Pemberton Western Australia when we first got engaged in Feb of 2000.

Another view of the entry table, this time from behind the counter in the kitchen...I love I can see my family photo wall from here also...The french doors next to the entry table lead into my "work room" which is currently just a big jumble of empty or half empty boxes...OOPS...

Turning to my right I have a great view of the living room and the Christmas trees from here too...You can almost make out lil Sara's toy corner to the right of the picture.

A closer look at my little nativity scene...No cloches in this house (yet) so making do with my cake server...This nativity scene I purchased on clearance for just $1.49 when I was only 14 yrs old...My family never had one and after I brought it home it was used every Christmas on my mum's side board until I left home...She had hoped when I moved to the USA I would leave it behind for her...Sorry mum...I simply could not part with it.

Some of my favorite pieces from around the room...I love the workshop Santa, as someone that works with toys he is right up my alley...The rocking horse is from my doll photo prop box, as is the golden up "thingie" (bottom left)...The heart bird cage is really proving very versatile to change with the season...

More random images...With no fireplace I had to get creative and hung the stockings on the side of the pantry next to the door that houses the a/c-heating unit...The Love pillow and the nut crackers are on the kitchen window sill...I love these pot holders with pine cones and cardinals on them...The angel is a stain glass wind chime that is hanging on the other set of french doors that lead to the back yard...and of course my pink pine cone center piece.

And of course we have to finish with the Tree's...Though I realized after I was done making this mosaic that I forgot the 3 foot tree...Maybe next week :)...Notice the lil Sara's 10inch tree next to the Teacher Santa..This Santa I purchased to give to my FIL one Christmas but just could not bare to part with him once he came home...Now my secret it out I could be in trouble....

I hope you enjoyed the tour and will come back and visit again soon

Blessings Kelsie

Very Pink Christmas From Florida....

Nothing says "Florida Christmas" more than a tacky pink Flamingo with a Santa hat lol...Lil Sara spotted this the second we walked into Beales Outlet this morning and thank goodness it was 50% off because she was not leaving without it lol.

It also just happens to be timed perfectly to give me something to share on this Pink Saturday...Linking to How Sweet The Sound for PINK SATURDAY so please pop over and see all the other lovely pink posts.

Crazy Cold Week....

Living room Christmas tree lit up at night

This week has just flown by and I have barely got anything on my "I would like to-do" list done...I did get the outside lights hung and the ladies Christmas party at church was so much fun...Though I almost did not attend as Sara had on her Diva hat all day and I just wanted to crawl under a rock by that evening and pretend the day had not happened...But with the prodding of Mic I got showered and dressed and went anyway and I am so glad I did.

It has been rather colder here...Well cold for Florida and having to keep Sara entertained inside the house has been the biggest challenge...Many tantrums sitting by the doors crying "outtie outtie" have taken place...and we have more cold weather coming...I am however very grateful that we no longer live in the mobile home which would get ice on the inside of the windows whenever we would have frost...SO far we have managed to baby our plants thru by covering them with every available bed sheet the nights it is below freezing...I am worried about Sunday night as we are supposed to get as low as 15 degrees F...for you metric folks that is -7 degrees C.

So that is this weeks the scoop so far...Cold and busy..I owe many ppl return visits to your blogs and wish I had the time to see all the amazing photos of your Christmas decor...Maybe things will calm down by next week *chuckles*...I would like to say thank you to everyone that has been so kind as to leave me sweet comments, they really do warm my heart.

Now I must catch the princess and get her dressed to go see Santa...Maybe he can explain the difference between naughty and nice...cause she sure ain't listening to momma.

Quick Free Pine Cone Ornament...

Tomorrow night I am heading to my first social function at our new church...It is the ladies Christmas party and ornament exchange, I really do not have the strength to face shopping for an ornament with Lil Sara...And anyway as we all know it is much more fun to make them :)

I wish I could take credit for the idea, but I borrowed it from the queen of shabby and pink fabulousness, Olivia @ Olivia's Romantic Home, though I did change it up a little from her tutorial...I spray painted my pine cones using "ballet slipper pink"...Once dry I sprayed them with spray on adhesive and then sprinkled it with silver glitter....I have a plate of them on my dining table for my center piece with some ribbon and faux greenery (will share center piece later this week)

Because I was making the ornament for someone else, I did not want to risk using hot glue to hold it together, I had a super small cup hook on hand so used pliers to close the opening to make it into a ring, I then screwed it into the top of the pine cone...tied some mini pearl strands and some 1/8th soft pink ribbon around the base of the ring...Threaded some shear 1/4inch white ribbon thru the ring and tied ends together to create a loop to hang the ornament on the tree with...I think it turned out really pretty...I hope whoever ends up with it tomorrow night agrees...Would you be happy if you received it?

Now if Sara would just take a nap I could work on creating a gift bag out of Christmas paper to put it in lol.

Blessings Kelsie

Late for Tea...

This week I do not have time for a tea party and I think I have pretty much shared all my human size teacups...So I wanted to share my favorite TeaParty related doll....I encourage you to click the images to enlarge them so you can enjoy all the little details on this creation...The description that follows with the images was written to accompany the doll to the auction block...

IFDC Artist Doll Collaboration
by OneSixthSense and Mutant Goldfish Designs

Each artist received Integrity's Natalie Fatale BACK TO BLACK (nude) for a special auction in support of the IFDC at the 2010 convention. 40 dolls in total were sent out to the many different artists.

I had the honor of with Dawn of OneSixthSense, who created a gorgeous Natalia repaint for me to dress in my Avant Garde take on Tea Time...

My Inspiration:

We LOVE tea parties at my house and host them ever chance we get, whether it is just me and my girls or having guests over to enjoy true English Tea and home made scones made from scratch just like my mum taught me. So no surprise we are also big fans of the story of Alice in Wonderland...

When I read there was going to be a Tim Burton Alice movie coming out, images of Mrs. Lovett (Sweeney Todd) meets the Mad Hatter entered my head..This is what inspired me to create this fun Avant Garde gown in deeper jewel tones rather than the softer pastels most ppl would associate with a garden tea party..With the darker color pallet and Natalia's black hair, it gave the design an evening feel, making it much to late in the day for proper tea time....meaning our girl is more than just a little "Late for Tea".....

A closer look at all the hand done Details

Before and After...Image courtesy of Dawn

The transformation began with the amazing repaint by Dawn...She removed the original factory paint and created the most unbelievable gorgeous new look for our doll...For those of you not familiar with the Fashion Royalty brand of dolls, these dolls are the same scale as Barbie.

The dolls own hair, a wild afro was tamed and then restyled to resemble an Elizabethan Wig...A little blue bird nesting on one side, black roses in back and a teacup that is spilling over, add a touch of whimsy to the design.

This fob watch was created by hand just for our girl,
but alas it does not seem to help, she is still more than a little "Late for Tea"

I will be sharing my Tea Party inspired Doll today at the following parties...Though I might be a little "Late For Tea" to some of them...

Rose Chintz Cottage & Inspirations - Tea Time Tuesday

Lady Katherine Tea Parlor - Tea Time Tuesday

Wander Lee and Pam's - Tea Pot and Tea Things Tuesday

and party Co-hosts:

Martha's Favorites - Tea Cup Tuesday

Zero Cavity Club...

*Warning*
This post is mainly for the Grandparents, though everyone is welcome to read it :)

This morning both girls had dentist appointments...Mic, a cleaning and Sara, her periodical...Since Sara has been accompanying her big sister, since she was just a wee preemie in a baby carrier she is very familiar with all the staff and the routine...They about died when they saw how big she has gotten since our last visit...She was off down the hallway to the examining room and in the chair before I had even finished talking with the DH who did Mic's cleaning today lol.

Sara and Dr Bovio

Sara loves riding the chair

Big ARRRRRRRRR - NO CAVITIES!!

Nurse Kirsten giving Sara her certificate and TWO stickers...wow

For being such good girls I took them to Subway for lunch..

Mic's like "Really Mum??"
Though no certificate, she was cavity free this visit also...yay

Sara will go back in a couple of weeks for her first cleaning...Now if I could just get her to stop eating all her toothpaste we would be set :)

Working on my heart...A rough morning

This morning started much too early with a Lil Sara waking me before the rooster was even crowing...She then proceeded to demand we get out of bed though it was barely 5am...I made her a yogurt smoothie, gave her a pop tart and turned on the TV to NickJR because it was quite apparent she was up for the morning...

I made me a coffee and sat down at the laptop to check on my email and auctions, AND then stupidly decided since she is occupied I would try and get a little work done and add the new auction listings to my doll website and update the front page, since I was too tired last night by the time she finally settled down to sleep...

This worked for awhile, until the shows she likes watching ended and that was her cue to come harass me...Mummy...Mummy...Mummy MUMMY COME 'ERE!!..Mummy...Mummy...Mummy...You all know the chant...It ground and ground on my nerves and since by this time it was after 7am, I was hoping hubby would take sympathy on me and get up and take care over...After all I am having that "monthly" trouble and to boot had tummy trouble last night and spent much of my evening in the bathroom (the other reason the work did not get finished lastnight)...OK that is probably TMI but you need to understand my frame of mind...SO, alas my Knight in shinning armor does not rouse from his warm comfortable bed until the child has hit me with her guitar numerous times, got on my lap to "help"...pushed buttons (mine and the laptops)...got down again...then up again...then up again...and finally I exploded for him to get out here and take this child away before I do something I shouldn't....when oh when will I learn NOT to try and get work done while the child is awake.

So by the time he leaves for work I am pretty sure I am can't be bothered going to church...Today the children's church choir is doing their Christmas program...arg...the last thing I want to see today is more children...BUT I pushed thru this mood and get a quick shower, dress myself in jeans, sweater and sneakers...Sara to match...It was cold this morning and I was in no fit frame of mind to mess with stockings and matching jackets and shoes and dresses and hair and make-up...God does not care how I dress as long as I get there..right?...I then load into the car Sara, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and her singing teapot because she insisted they must come too...another arg...I will just leave them in the car when we get to church...

HAHAHA, no the teapot had to come inside too...but I did convince her to at least turn it off ...and shoved it into my purse...because there is not enough in there already....

So we get inside and after a little bit I see Miss Lucille and ask if she minds if we sit with her today because I know when her Husband Jr comes in, Sara will want to see him...So we settle into our seats...I am dreading the service since Sara has NEVER sat thru one before, and the last "show" we saw was an awards ceremony for her sister and I missed 80% of it walking her around outside...

FINALLY the service starts and we sing Christmas Carols...about halfway thru the first one I am about to die...laughing that is...Sara is singing at the top of her lungs...but of course she does not know the words because she does not speak english that well...it is just her Sara babble, but very VERY loud and to the beat of the music...by the 2nd song the ppl around me are giggling too...

The childrens program was wonderful and Sara enjoyed ever moment of it, right up until she fell asleep near the end...I managed to get her to the car and home into bed without waking her...

I am so glad I pushed thru the mood this morning and went...I feel much better for it and know that God is working in my heart to help me curb my temper and teach me patience...One major thing also, a month ago I would have jump at the excuses to stay home today instead of pushing thru...Praise the Lord for working in me today.

Blessings Kelsie

PS: I had planned to give yall a Christmas Tour today, but have yet to face editing the photos...So the above image is a taste of what is to come later...BUT for now I am going to get a cup of coffee and take 5 minutes to breath before I have to put the pot roast on and/or the wee one awakes again.

Pink Christmas Tree

I just love this pink tree created by my very clever MIL for lil Sara last Christmas...This year I added the snow flake ornaments and displayed it together with my blue fiber-optic snow angle...They look so pretty together atop my entertainment center.

Here they are during the day and unlit...As you can see the tree is made from pink tulle...My all time favorite fabric *grin*...The shades of blue and pink are a perfect compliment to each other and with an accent of white to give them a lovely soft girlie feel...Does not get much better than that...

Another look at them lit up at night...

Between you and me, I wish I could do my entire Christmas decor to match.

I am sharing today over at How Sweet The Sound
for my first ever PINK SATURDAY please pop over and see all the lovely pink posts and this week yummy holiday recipes.
